Progress and a Bit of Stash

I'm happy to say I've got quite a bit of Halloween Red done.  I also received the exclusive chart I talked about in my last post.  Tilton is also having a great sale if you're part of their Facebook group.  Buy 2 get 2 free.  So I'll have more stash after I decide which ones I want.  After that no more buying!  Also in the next post I should have a finish.  I'd be further along now but I've been working more on my chair.  I should have that finished on Sunday hopefully.  So next post will be very informative!

But for now I'm proud of my progress on Halloween Red.  Especially when I look at the pictures from last week.

Then:

Now:

I have to say I'm loving this one so far.  It's turning out really well.  My new chart is titled Christmas Quilt.

I thought it looked more like stained glass so I think I'm going to make a few changes to make it that way.  It's hard to see in the pic but I will take out some of the colors that make it look like stitching and add a thick black border around each object using backstitch.  Still debating this as it will require quite a few changes but I love the look of stained glass and I think this will lend itself well.  However out of my 4 new charts I'll be getting, 2 of them are Christmas/Winter themed which gives me 4 Christmas projects.  But I'm going to be focusing most on Magical World.  I'm going to dye the Christmas Quilt fabric a mottled red and Santa's Workshop a mottled dark green.  I was debating dark blue but it already has a lot of blue and due to a happy accident where I got lost I found my way to a Joann's and got some red and green Dylon dye.

On a more serious note my family is currently funding an operation for my niece who has shaken baby syndrome and who is starting to lose her vision in one eye.  I'm putting her funding page on my sidebar if you can help great if not I understand.  But if you can help put the word out I would be grateful.  Thanks!

Until next time,
Happy stitching!

    1. Thank you Caitlin. We had some more bad news today about her too. I just hate that I live so far away from her because I can't go and hang out with her randomly like I would like. But I agree on Halloween I'm liking it a lot more than I thought I would.

  4. Red is beautiful!m I love the colours you are using for the background. The new chart looks like fun too, it will be like lots of little finishes!
I read about your niece and it just made me so angry. Why should a child suffer because of a lack of money? She should get all her treatments for free. By all means make adults pay for their own insurance but babies? Insane. It also sounds like she is in mainstream school. Would a special school be a better place for her? My son attends a brilliant one here in the UK and a lot of those services are provided as part of his education. Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, swimming, communication and signing, an Educational Psychologist for us to talk to and to follow his progress. I know that mainstream inclusion is a big thing and many people shy away from separating children but honestly it is the best thing we could have done for him. It's also helpful meeting the other parents who share lots of advice on the practical and financial issues!

    1. It might but once again money comes in to play. My sister has 3 going on 4 other kids and her fiance doesn't work and she babysits for money so private school isn't really an option. We're trying to encourage her to try again in court because they found out her ex is making $50,000 a year and she should be getting at least twice as much in child support.

  5. Halloween Red is looking great!
I too read about your niece and was so sorry to hear how she has to suffer because of a lack of money. I hope your appeal raises enough money so she can access the treatments she needs. She shouldn't have to pay for that. Praying for you and your family too.

    1. Thank you Justine. I don't want to flood my posts about her but so far the fundraising isn't going well. I'm trying to get my sister to appeal the court but we'll see.
